31 January 2000
Well, today was a pretty good day. Or rather, I survived work, and then checked my email before class. To my surprise, I had email from both Jen and Jason of Barcelona who had seen my pita entry about their album Simon BASIC. Both were very nice, and Jason gave me an idea:

I did want to offer some encouragement to keep going with your website..... There's not enough content like that on the web lately. Everybody just wants to try to make money or get some free stuff.

And then what my father calls a Blinding Flash of the Obvious hit me:

Brace yourselves, because slow-dog is going public!

That's right, this is a golden opportunity for you and your friends to get in on the ground floor of an exciting new internet startup. slow-dog is what high tech info-barons like myself like to call, a "content provider". So far you have enjoyed this content for free. Now that's the way it should be, but wouldn't your experience be better if while you were here at slow-dog, you saw banner ads which rotated through items targeted to people like you? No more searching for items you think you want--I know what you need, and I'll make those items available to you right here! In fact, if you become a charter member at slow-dog, we will automatically bill your credit card when we come across items that you need. You'll have them in your grubby little paws before you know you couldn't live without them!

Now you'll agree that this is a great idea, but first we need to raise some capital. Would-be investors, please send email to ipo@slow-dog.com. Would-be members, please send email with your credit card number using our super-secret-secure email to membership@slow-dog.com . First 50 members and investors each get a free email address through their choice of yahoo or hotmail.

Finally, if you're in New York on 11-12 Febuary, you should definitely go to March Records 8th Anniversary Party with Barcelona, Kleenex Girl Wonder, and others. Or, you can go check out Barcelona at one of their other dates. Now I'm off to write a two page research paper proposal (two pages for the proposal, not the paper).

Went to see Shrug last night. Review is here. Again, I've procrastinated horribly doing work this weekend, and will continue to do so by going to a Super Bowl party tonight. I have little interest in this year's game, but there's free food at the party and it is somewhat of an obligation to watch the game, so you do the math.

The weather this weekend has been rather underwhelming, since there was some talk about lots of snow, and it doesn't seem to have happened.

Got a nice email from Steve, the guitarist from Promenade, who saw my review of their album. He said he'd buy me a beer at the next show I go to. Well, it's hard to pass an offer like that up. Unfortunately, I missed Promenade, the Fairmount Girls, Tigerlillies, and the Wolverton Brothers who all played at Southgate House last night, but I was tired and lazy and didn't want to drive that far, and had a good time at the aformentioned Shrug show anyway. So I guess I'll have to get that beer at some later date. That's all for now!

There's no better way to get perspective on your own intelligence/stupdity like getting home from work and discovering that you left your front door open. Fortunately, my neighbors aren't thieves, and the outer door to my apartment was closed, so nothing was taken. Or, thieves came in and realized that I didn't have anything worth taking and left.

A couple notes about this site, if you came here and are asking, "Well now what?" First, you can check out my pita, which is a collection for random links--be sure to go from there to check out other people's pitas, which are probably cooler than mine. Also, if you want to see what I've been listening to recently, or at least what I've purchased recently, check out my music page. The recent acquisitions are at the top.

In other news, there's not much going on. It's still cold, and I'm looking for something to spend some money on. Last night i was thinking new stereo equipment, maybe a new amp or new speakers, but I'd kind of like a web pad when transmeta and friends make one. So I'll probably just end up waiting long enough that this urge to buy something slightly expensive will pass.

Well, it stayed cold all weekend, and I spent all Sunday (well, after I got up, anyway) working with my project partner to create a design document for the project in my compiler's class. It's going pretty well, but it's easy to say that before you start writing code. Other than that, I'm spending this week and next week in a training class for work which fills my days and absolves me of some of my work for a time. The class isn't terribly interesting, but what are you going to do? Well if your me, you try to sleep through portions of it and are very successful. Last week I got (and I am not making this up, probably a good solid 6 hours of sleep in 3 days of class). Oh well. I will balance it out by staying up late tonight, as I should really work on a problem set for class tomorrow, but would rather type this out and then finish the configuration of my local MTA (never mind if you don't know).

Right now I am grooving to my "just purchased used tonight and what a find it was Lilys' Better Can't Make Your Life Better. You should be too.

Cheers,
Sean

So, what does one do when it's too damn cold to want to do anything? Well, you sit around trying to convince yourself to do something, and then you get to thinking that maybe you should just stay at home and listen to all the music you've bought recently and reflect on life while having a little of your coffee that came in the mail today. Then while idly flipping through channels while listening to the Magnetic Fields, you come across Iron Chefs Batttle: Carp which you haven't seen.

It's going along swimmingly and you decide to augment the fantastic coffee just a nip . Then you get a call, from a friend, who wants to watch a movie, and you two settle on the quite excellent Shaft in Africa. All in all, not a bad evening.

Well, first off, happy birthday to my mother!

You may have noticed some changes around here. Basically, I did some updating and changed the structure of my pages so that I could generate them from pieces with a perl script. I'm still messing around with it, but hopefully it will allow me to make changes quicker. I also created an archive page to move stuff to when this pages gets too full--probably once a month.

In other news, it snowed a lot last night, and for some reason I got the day off of work. So I put it to good use by sleeping in, watching The Matrix on video. Currently, I am missing a database class to finish this up. You see what I go through for you folks?

By the way, I know this color scheme sucks, so if someone with better taste than myself could suggest a better one, let me know.

Just got back from partying with the OSU kids in Columbus. Feeling a little old, but what are you going to do. Got a surprise in the mail today--my Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs delivered in advance of when I expected it. I must say it's a fine set of albums. And if anytime in the near future (or far future as it may be), I should fall in love and then break up, I shall be listening to it religiously. Anyway, enjoying the concept of the long weekend. Sunday seems so much longer when you don't have to go to work on Monday. As you can see, I don't have a lot to say right now, just a wish to babble.

11 January 2000
Boy, do I need to archive this index page. Anyway, reviews of the Promenade CD release party show and album are up! Check them out.

7 January 2000
Well, here's the short version of my vacation, as I'm too lazy to write the long version right now. Spent a fine Christmas with the family, then went to Reno like we do every year. Abandoned the folks in Reno to meet up with my friends from Stanford. Learned to play craps and escaped with most of my money. Drove from Reno to Pasadena on the 31st and partied that night along the Rose Parade route. Drank. Made it to Kevin's place. Unfortunately woke up the next morning.

Courtesy of my friend Dan, we had free tickets to the Rose Bowl. Dan had made the unfortunate prediction back in August, "Stanford will not go to the Rose Bowl in my lifetime." Well, 4 hours before game time, it looked like he might fulfill the prophecy, but I'm happy to report he's alive and well.

Game was good, even though we lost. Left the southland (thanks Kevin, for putting us up!) and headed to the Bay Area where I ate at some of the places that I always eat at whenever I get a chance. Saw some more friends, missed my flight, met a very pleasant legal clerk from Mississippi via Rocky Top and St. Louis. Arrived back here dead tired.

So I got all of that out so I could get on with my life. I need to archive some of the older stuff on this page soon--maybe this morning after I go to sleep and wake up.

Coming soon! Reviews of the 6 January Promenade CD release party show, as well as the brand spanking new CD. I know you're waiting with baited breath.
