30 October 2000
Stats of the Day:

8 - Number of whole days I have free between now and 1 January.
28 - Number of nights(only) I have free (including nights I go to school) between now and 1 January.
10 November - Due date of the first b-school application I will complete.
4 - Number of essays I've started for that application. 0 - Number of essays completed thus far.

Ladies and gentleman. It's time to get to work.

Song Lyrics of the Day:

1. "My grammar be ebonics, gin tonic, and chronic" - Nelly
2. "The thousand miles between us still seems too close sometimes" - Rhe

For those of you who care, I had a breakthrough today with respect to my essays. Like a blinding flash of the obvious, as my dad call it, two and a half pages of stuff about who I am and how I fit together jumped onto the page. Of course I was in the middle of a lecture on memory architectures, which I totally zoned out on in favor of the writing. I was actually trying to write a different essay when this one pushed its way out. I think it's going to be good, and that's going to make everything A-OK.

Spent the night with 97X boarders Bronzetree, C-land, Cuddlyevil, and Velvetsiren. We were at the Rhe and The Simpletons show. I had never seen Rhe before, but thought they were frickin' fantastic, if you like that "golden-voiced girl who plays keyboards mostly" kind of vibe, and who doesn't? Of course, The Simpletons were good, and I finally managed to pick up their CD. Of note, I also ran into Steve of Promenade, who had actually read what I had written about the album, and was kind enough to buy me a beer.

Every year, I forget how low my tolerance is for candy corn, and every year around this time I get an overwhelming urge for it. It only takes a dozen or so pieces, and then my teeth start to hurt and I start to feel ill, but I have to somehow finish the bag (or this year, two bags) I bought. Oh sweet agony.

I've neglected to mention in this space some of the more entertaining tidbits of life over the last few weeks. So here's a hodgepodge of the little things that get me through the day:

1. A new engineer moved into the office. He's a talker, no matter how much you try to avoid it. For some reason, I run across a lot of talkers, so I've got a few tricks up my sleeve to deal with them (those tricks'll stay secret, thank you, since you may be someone I need to evade one day). However, I was totally unprepared for his more unique talent: sleeping. With the exception of one day, this guy has fallen asleep at his desk every day that he's worked in our office. This has probably been aided by the fact that our boss has been out of the office for the last two weeks, but it's still shocking. I'm beginning to think that it's a medical problem, though, and not a charming quirk. Of course, that didn't stop myself and another guy from creating a chart measuring the daily frequency of sleep events as well as their intensity. Look for the graph here in the future. Unfortunately, this means I'm going straight to hell if he falls asleep at the wheel and plows into a semi.

2. I had my first encounter with one of the mentally ill outpatients who lives down the street. I was walking back from the drugstore and she was standing in the promenade shouting "I hate you all!" at the top of her lungs.

3. In more neighborhood news, a hobbit was spotted on a routine walk to a local eating establishment. What tipped it off was his short stature and his mat of hair covering his back, chest, and stomach. I swear, I thought he was wearing a shirt. Moral of the story? If you are that hairy, do wear a shirt.

Things to do this week:
Write 3 full essays
Get info to recommender
Send off transcript requests
Bring gym clothes to work
Study for midterm
Create research paper proposal
Fun at the Nite Owl with c-evil, c-land, v-siren, and b-tree

That's all I can think of for now.

Weekend was fine. Getting over head cold that kicked me hard the end of last week. Found my picture on the web. No, I did not run the marathon. Notre Dame vs. Stanford was good, if cold, but it would've been better if we had one. The theme of this weekend, though, seemed to be neglecting obligations. Those in the know would say, "But isn't that the theme of the last of your life?" To which I say, screw you, it'll all be taken care of in due time.

Her: So, when you said it, were you being serious or were you being cute and charming?
Me: I'm always cute and charming.
Her: So were you being serious?
Me: I was being cute and charming.
Her: See, I took you seriously.
Me: Oh.

And thus, stupdity gets me in trouble once again.
