Returned from a wild long weekend in Montana. Had a blast, and got to pretend I was part of a big extended family--a novel experience for someone's who's biggest family reunion involved 13 people. Anyway, maybe I'll put up a few pictures.

Well, it got to the point that I needed to destroy my computer as I knew it and from the ashes create something new and better. That has been a problem. It's tenatively working now. Gone are Windows 98, NT, and RedHat 6.1. Here is Mandrake Linux 8.0, which looks pretty spiffy so far. My CD-ROM is still making weird noises, but fixing that will have to wait until after the wedding. No, not mine.

It's becoming clear that my computer is rebelling. It's been making weird noises for awhile that I think means the fan on the power supply is going. I could fix this, but I haven't, and it may cause catastrophe yet. Couple that with my bundling attempts to fix the aforementioned data loss, and things have gotten worse. Eventually, you reach a point where it's just easier to reformat and start from scratch than to try and salvage every bit of data. I'm rapidly approaching that point, but I'd like to see everything last another 6 weeks. Then I'd be able to forget about my computer until I returned from my trip in October or so.

It appears that I may have accidentally deleted a large portion of my life stored on my hard drive.

Only a week till mother's day, and still blank on gift ideas. Actually, I need to order pictures for her, since she asked for some portraits of her son a long time ago, but that would only be finally settling some old gift debt I owe her so I need something more. Thank god for the web and priority mail.
