Today's millenial song is: I See You Baby by Groove Armada (jive electro)

23 December 1999
So a mere half day of work, and then I'm headed to the West Coast. Unfortunately, I've been wickedly aggravated by a multitude of minor incidents today--people writing checks in crowded stores, idiots on the road, slow gas pumps, etc.--so I can't say I'm in a Christmas-y mood. I'm assuming that this ill-will will disappear soon enough.

Quick synopsis, because I don't think I should actually write a review: CDNow finally delivered the GRG CD, which is not nearly so poppy and accessible as I imagined. It's not bad, but I haven't decided if it's just OK, or if I have yet to tap into some subtext

And since everyone else is doing it, I'll do it on a small scale, with explanation. My subjective top 5 albums of 1999:

5. The Flaming Lips, The Soft Bulletin (warner bros.)
4. Sleater-Kinney, The Hot Rock, (kill rock stars)
3. Built to Spill, Keep it Like a Secret (warner bros.)
2. Lilys, The 3 Way (sire)
1. Dismemberment Plan, Emergency & I (desoto)

Ask me again in 3 months, and I'll probably give you different answers.

That's it for tonight. Maybe I'll check in over the holidays.

Made it to Columbus on Friday for GRG. Opening acts were the fine Silo the Huskie, and also the Sean Woolsey Band. Concert info is here. If this link is broken, it's because I haven't done the write-up yet.

Saturday was a fine evening spent dancing with old people at Have a Nice Day Cafe in Cincy, followed by some late night phone calls to friends who were all rather good-natured about it. And I still haven't done all of my Christmas shopping yet, which is not good.

Don't know how I missed this, perhaps because it wasn't set up until recently(?), but tomorrow at the Overflow in Cincinnati, Promenade and the Simpletons are playing. I think I'm still going to Columbus, but for those of you who aren't, here's your equally attractive pop alternative (EAPA). Pet peeve: there are about 5 different allegedly complete Cincinnati area music calendars, and they are all woefully incomplete. Somebody make a note to fix that.

Okay, so I messed up in my attempts to be kind of hip.....Subpop recording artist The Go played last night at Dayton locale Club Safari, and for some reason I thought it was tonight. I w as planning to go to see if they gave a better performance live than the album stuff I've heard (not-so-interesting guitar rock/blues), but unfortunately I missed it. And since I'm not entirely certain I like there sound, I think that means I won't be go ing to catch them in Cincinnati at Sudsy Malone's. If you go, let me know how it went. The next show of note is 17 Dec 99, where I'm hopefully going to make it to Columbus to see Go Robot Go. More news to follow

Here is some content. I'd like to direct your attention to the manifesto which outlines what slow-dog is and isn't, as well as giving a history of origin for the name. Briefly put, this is my website. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
