slow-dog.entry30.01.2003: "misc: me talk funny one day"

[Previous entry: "misc: marking time"] [Main Index] [Next entry: "me: birthday recap"]

Do I talk funny? Do I have a strange accent? I know that I have a tendency to take on accents of people I'm talking to, but has it cemented into something permanent? Today, someone I spoke to on the phone asked if I was Canadian, because of "the way I clip some words." Of course she's Aussie, so maybe when the Aussie sneaks into my voice, it comes out Canadian. Really, I want to know.

You speak softly, and you're careful with your vowel sounds. Just like 80% of Canada, and 20% of the US. I get that all the time on the road.

But there's something else, too. There's something ever so slight different. I think it's your cadence. You can carry off adding an 'eh' to the end of the sentence, for example.

Don't worry, though. No aboots or favours.

I have heard you pronounce the word "finger" as "fanger" every now and again. Hope that helps.

You are a freak of linguistic nature! Just deal with it.
