I had a ticket to see Built to Spill tonight. I drove 30 miles into the City. I had dinner with Nick. I left Nick's and drove by the Great American Music Hall. It was 9:30. There were going to be two opening acts. "I don't really need to see Built to Spill, do I?" I thought to myself. And I decided, that, no, I didn't really need to see them.

I'm burned out. My job is a roller coaster of good and bad, but whether you love or hate the roller coaster, you're still getting accelerated and hung upside down, and after a time, it starts to wear on you.

Last night, I had dinner with friends. They asked me about my job. I described the roller coaster and gave some examples of the highs and lows. I pointed out, several times, that work had been pretty good that day. It was a good night. I was in a good mood.

And so karmically, it was completely to be expected that today at work would suck royally. And the outlook for tomorrow? Not good.

A friend from Austria sent me a couple of cool CDs. In the process of looking for a place to buy CDs of some of the artists, I stumbled across this site, which looks worth exploring. Although it has nothing to do with what I'm actually looking for at the moment.

Anderson Valley Brewing Company's Poleeko Gold is the worst beer I have purchased since the Pabst Genuine Draft (not to be confused with PBR) fiasco. Not only does it have a terrible taste (and aftertaste), it has the unique ability to foam over the bottle with the first sip and then continue to foam over the bottle, even after you've made a serious dent in it. AVBC should focus on their Amber Ale, which is a fine brew, and fire whoever came up with the Poleeko Gold recipe.

I live in California. According to the census bureau, 32% of this state is of Hispanic or Latino origin. And it's not like they all live in a walled off area where no mingling takes place with the rest of the population. Mexican restaurants of all stripes are everywhere. Around here, you can't drive a block without seeing one. So how the hell did I end up behind the one guy in California who didn't know how to quickly order a burrito tonight?
