So with that stirring endorsement, here it is:
10.
All Hands on the Bad One :: Sleater-Kinney (kill rock stars)
Not nearly so good as last year's The Hot Rock, but good enough this year.
9.
Gizmodgery :: Self (spongebath)
A whole album done with toy instruments? This gimmick album surprised me with its ability to not become trite and cute.
8.
Quality Control :: Jurassic 5 (interscope)
We like rap!
7.
Building Nothing Out of Something :: Modest Mouse (up)
B-sides thrown together to create an album? Still a lot better than a lot of stuff put out this year.
6.
Save the Radio :: Promenade (self-released)
Cincinnati local band does good.
5.
Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennae to Heaven! :: Godspeed You Black Emperor (kranky)
Epic, or something. It'll take me 'till 2002 to digest this one.
4.
The Moon & Antarctica :: Modest Mouse (epic)
Gasp! You can't put two albums from one band in a top ten list! Oh yeah, watch me.
3.
Number Seven Uptown :: Swearing at Motorists (secretly canadian)
There were almost two albums by these guys on the list, but since there aren't, I'll point out that these guys have a song on 2000's other release where the primary background noise is an air-raid siren.....and it's melodic. Dayton's lo-fi heritage lives on in this one.
2.
Kid A :: Radiohead (capitol)
The anticipation was so high, this one was bound to fail. It didn't.
1.
Believo :: Enon (see thru broadcasting)
Weird and electronic and wonderful.
