It's a sad fact that I'm easily influenced by the patterns of speech of the people I hang out with. If I lived in the South, I'd be speaking in a drawl in about 6 months. As it is, I work in a company with lots of Australians. It's a losing battle I'm fighting. I use "no worries" and "how ya going" now without thought. Occasionally, I have caught myself saying "good on ya mate." This week, I've used "sussed" multiple times. Lord knows what's coming next.......

Just as long as you don't start up with Cockney rhyming slang, you should be OK.

Heh, sounds like your Aus-ification is imminent. As for me, I definitely have been dipping into the local argot, mostly the things you've mentioned. Additionally, alternate-universe nouns of the 'elevator=lift' nature have been drifting into my vocabulary, partially due to the necessity of making oneself readily understood. My accent, however, despite 24x7 exposure to Australians, has not wavered in the slightest.

Now that you've learned the language, why not come visit? :)

"Hire" and "boot" are fine, but hold out against "torch".
